Does online hypnotherapy really work?

In short, online hypnotherapy gets a big ‘YES’, (not that I am biased in any way!!), it does work, and it’s very effective whether you’re dealing with stress, want support with your weight management, have insomnia, anxiety or a phobia you want to get rid of.

Over the past few months this is a question that I have been asked many times and due to the Corona-virus pandemic, therapists have had to move from face to face meetings to being online. This change is not something that is going to revert quickly. For many clients and therapists, the online sessions provide additional benefits and continue to support the therapy fully.

Now, why is that?

Well, rather than finishing work and rushing to get to your appointment, worrying about where to park and then having to get home after a lovely relaxing session. The reality is that after your Solution Focused Hypnotherapy session, all that you really want to do is take your newly found, relaxed state, and move seamlessly through the rest of your day, whether you’re working from home, having fitted your online appointment in between other meetings, or at the end of a day when you have finished work.

We have mentioned the plus of not having to rush to the appointment therein saving you time and that sense of the constant rushing and busyness that we all get caught up in at times, the next thing to tick off the list. It’s great for anyone with mobility issues, those who worry about heading out in these uncertain times and key workers who don’t want to expose themselves to any extra germs or their schedules make it impossible to visit a therapist. It’s also great as its online you don’t have to live close to the therapist you choose and if a family member or friend has used someone you can go with their recommendation. Then there is the gentle joy of sitting in your own home, with a cup of tea or coffee. Relaxing in your familiar space, enjoying the smug knowledge that you only need to nip downstairs or into the next room to join back into the hum drum flow of your day.

For online therapy to work you need to have a reliable internet connection, with laptop, computer, android phone or tablet, and a place where you can sit quietly, talk freely and not be interrupted by the children, your partner or the dog, although I often find the dogs usually curl up and fall asleep once the hypnotherapy part of the session starts. When the time is right you can then sit back and relax, in the comfort of your own home, ready for the trance work.

Don’t get me wrong, as a therapist we do miss seeing you in our practice and having that face to face meeting, but the end line is that we want to provide a service, where we can support our clients and online hypnotherapy sessions work. So, we are happy to adapt and take on a new and exciting way of working.

What happens in an online session?

After our initial contact and with an appointment time set up I would;

1. send out 2 documents by email; one for your contact details, which I need for insurance purposes and then

2. a sheet giving you ‘Top Tips’ for how to have a good Zoom session.

3. You would then receive an email the day before your appointment as a reminder, with your Zoom link and time.

4. At the allotted time you would click on the link and get accepted to the meeting, where we would then be able to interact via modern technology.

Each session is 50 minutes to 1 hour and we go through how the brain works, by me sharing a power point that provides you with images, and I explain why we behave in the way that we do and then we work through some questions to find the solutions. This is followed by the lovely work of trance. This is something that we all go into on a daily basis and is often described as ‘daydreaming’. It is a time where our two minds come together and then we have access to the subconscious mind, and this is where we can help to change behaviours and challenge predetermined mind sets. As we can see online therapy does work and is brilliant for many different situations. From anxiety and phobias to supporting clients who are unable to leave home or whose lives are too busy and rushed.

Online sessions allow clients to take ownership of their mental health, in the comfort of their own home.

Please have a look at my blog that has two short relaxations that you are welcome to use when you need a short brain break.
